Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia sasanqua

Also known as Christmas Camellia, Sasanqua

Sasanqua camellias illuminate autumn and early winter woodlands with fragrant, delicate blooms when most temperate flora is entering dormancy. Unlike their spring-flowering relatives, these shrubs shed their blossoms petal by petal, scattering a colorful carpet across the forest floor. Dense evergreen foliage provides winter shelter for small songbirds while the blossoms offer late-season nectar to active pollinators.
