Rainbow Gum

Also known as Rainbow Eucalyptus, Mindanao Gum, Indonesian Gum

Rainbow gums shed thin strips of papery outer bark throughout the year, revealing brilliant lime-green underlayers that gradually deepen into streaks of blue, purple, orange, and maroon as they weather. As the only eucalyptus tree indigenous to humid rainforests north of the equator, they grow at staggering speeds in warm, well-watered river valleys, often soaring past fifty meters within a few decades. Their lofty canopies offer roosting sites for tropical birds and bats while continuous shedding enriches the equatorial forest floor with leafy mulch.
