Livelong Saxifrage

Livelong saxifrage forms dense, silver-green rosettes that cling directly to rocky alpine crevices and cliff faces. Special pores along the leaf margins secrete calcium carbonate, forming a sparkling crust of lime that reflects harsh high-altitude sunlight and conserves moisture. In early summer, delicate red-spotted white flowers emerge on branched stems held high above the evergreen foliage.
