Perennial flax paints open grasslands and mountain slopes with brilliant sky-blue blooms that open with the morning sun and lose their petals by late afternoon. Each delicate flower lasts only a single day, but a continuous succession of buds ensures a vibrant display throughout early summer. Its slender, graceful stems contain resilient fibers historically used to weave coarse cloth and thread.
