Blue plantain-lilies unfurl wide, heart-shaped dark green leaves that create dense ground-covering mounds in shaded woodland understories. Tall scapes emerge in midsummer, topped with rich violet bell-shaped blossoms that draw bees and hummingbirds. Uniquely, this perennial produces seeds through apomixis, generating offspring genetically identical to the parent without fertilization.
