Dwarf Palmetto
Sabal minorAlso known as Bush Palmetto, Scrub Palm, Little Blue Stem
Dwarf palmettos form dense green understories across the floodplains, swamps, and moist woodlands of the southeastern United States. Emerging from a mostly subterranean trunk, their broad fronds fan out up to two meters wide with a distinct fold along the central axis. In late spring, long branched stalks rise above the foliage carrying tiny white flowers followed by dark blue-black berries that feed overwintering birds.
