Rough Bentgrass forms loose clumps with hair-thin, branched panicles that expand into delicate, cloud-like seed heads by late summer. When mature, these dry flower clusters snap at the base and roll across open ground as tiny tumbleweeds, broadcasting seeds across sandy or disturbed terrain. Its fine, rough-textured blades colonize open spaces before taller vegetation takes over.
