Thin-walled maze polypores are widespread bracket fungi that colonize decaying deciduous wood, particularly willow, birch, and alder. Their semi-circular caps display concentric zones of grayish-brown to reddish-ochre, while the underside features variable maze-like pores that blush pinkish-red when scratched or young. As primary white-rot decomposers, they break down tough lignin within dead wood, recycling vital nutrients back into forest soils.
