Luzon boobooks are compact nocturnal hunters with striking yellow eyes, short hooked beaks, and dense brown-and-white mottled plumage that blends seamlessly into tree bark. They spend the day roosting high in dense forest foliage or vine tangles, emerging at twilight to perch along forest edges and clearings. Their distinct rhythmic calls form an iconic soundscape across the forested islands of the northern Philippines.
