Red-eyed doves call with a deep, rhythmic cooing that echoes through African woodlands and suburban gardens alike. Easily recognized by their bare red eye-ring and black half-collar, these sturdy pigeons forage mainly on the ground in pairs or small flocks. Pairs construct flimsy twig nests in tree forks, where both parents share incubation duties and nourish hatchlings with rich crop milk.
