White-winged doves are gregarious desert-dwellers that form massive, noisy nesting colonies in brushlands and urban parks. They are vital pollinators of the saguaro cactus, plunging their heads deep into the blossoms to drink nectar and feed on the sweet red fruit. Their rhythmic, cooing calls are a signature sound of summer mornings across the arid Southwest.
