Fieldfares are highly social thrushes recognizable by their chestnut-brown mantle, blue-grey crown and rump, and heavily spotted buff breast. Nesting in loose colonies, they vigorously defend their territories by mobbing intruders with harsh calls and droppings. In winter, large nomadic flocks sweep across agricultural fields and berry-laden hedges in search of food.
