Splendid Fairywren

Malurus splendens

Also known as Splendid Wren, Blue Wren

Splendid fairywrens live in cooperative social groups where non-breeding helpers assist dominant pairs in raising fledglings and defending shared territories. Breeding males are famously promiscuous, plucking bright pink or purple flower petals to present to neighboring females during elaborate courtship displays. Groups spend their days hopping through dense undergrowth, communicating with animated, high-pitched trills that warn companions of approaching danger.
