Far Eastern storks are magnificent wading birds that breed in eastern Russia and northeastern China before wintering along the lower Yangtze River basin and nearby wetlands in East Asia. They build massive stick nests high in tall trees or artificial towers, returning to the same site year after year to perform elaborate bill-clattering courtship displays. Loss of wetland habitat and drainage of floodplain foraging grounds pose ongoing threats to these solitary hunters.
