Black-headed Heron
Ardea melanocephalaBlack-headed herons are stately grassland hunters that stalk terrestrial prey with deliberate, slow-motion strides rather than wading in deep water. Unlike many aquatic relatives, they frequently congregate in open savannahs, pastureland, and road verges where they skewer rodents and grasshoppers with lightning strikes. They nest colonially in tall trees or reedbeds, filling the canopy with harsh, raucous croaks during the breeding season.
