Black Heron

Black Herons are famous for their unique canopy feeding behavior, spreading their wings over the water like an umbrella to cut glare and entice unsuspecting prey into the shade. This striking all-black wading bird haunts shallow wetlands, lagoons, and floodplains across Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. They often feed alone or in small groups, stepping deliberately through muddy shallows before suddenly casting a canopy shadow.
