Curl-crested aracaris stand out immediately due to the shiny, curled, plastic-like feathers on their crowns that resemble black patent leather. These highly social toucanets travel through the upper canopy of the southwestern Amazon in noisy family groups of up to a dozen individuals. They play a vital role in their rainforest ecosystem by dispersing the seeds of various tropical fruits they consume daily.
