Eastern Plantain-eater

Crinifer zonurus

Also known as Eastern Grey Plantain-eater, Eastern Gray Plantain-eater

Eastern plantain-eaters bound through upper canopy branches with floppy wingbeats and conspicuous tail-flashing, frequently gathering in noisy small parties. Their loud, nasal calls echo across open woodlands and suburban gardens, announcing their presence long before they are seen. Despite their common name, these grey turacos feed mostly on wild figs and berries rather than plantains, using stout greenish beaks to pluck fruit.
