Western Banded Gecko
Coleonyx variegatusAlso known as Desert Banded Gecko, Banded Gecko
Western banded geckos are delicate, nocturnal lizards that emerge after dark to hunt insects across arid desert basins. When threatened, they arch their tails over their backs and wave them slowly, mimicking a venomous scorpion to deter predators. Unlike many of their tropical relatives, they possess functional eyelids and lack adhesive toe pads, relying instead on tiny claws to navigate sandy soils.
