Crested geckos navigate the humid island understory using adhesive toe pads and a prehensile tail that acts as a fifth limb. Soft fringe-like projections extend from above their large lidless eyes down along the spine, giving them a distinct eyelash appearance. If startled into shedding their tail, these nocturnal climbers spend the rest of their lives without regenerating a replacement.

- Recognizable by the row of hair-like dermal crests running from the eyes down the upper back.

- Nighttime Spotting: Search low forest shrubbery with a red filter flashlight after dusk when they emerge to forage.
- Tail Awareness: Never grab or squeeze near the tail, as lost tails never grow back.
- Maintain Distance: Keep a peaceful distance to avoid startling them into defensive jumps.
