Crested geckos navigate the humid island understory using adhesive toe pads and a prehensile tail that acts as a fifth limb. Soft fringe-like projections extend from above their large lidless eyes down along the spine, giving them a distinct eyelash appearance. If startled into shedding their tail, these nocturnal climbers spend the rest of their lives without regenerating a replacement.
