Reaching weights up to eighty kilograms, these large forest ungulates are easily recognized by the striking triangular patch of yellow hair on their rumps. Solitary and shy, they forge deep trails through dense undergrowth while feeding on fallen seeds, fungi, and fruit dropped by canopy monkeys. Large preorbital glands beneath each eye secrete a thick paste used to mark territorial boundaries along frequent pathways.
