Siberian musk deer are small, solitary ungulates adapted to steep, dense taiga forests where they leap effortlessly across craggy terrain. Lacking antlers entirely, mature males display striking, elongated upper canine teeth that protrude downward like small tusks to settle territorial disputes during the winter rut. Their abdomen houses a gland that secretes a rich, valuable scent used in traditional medicine and perfumery, making them a prime target for illegal trapping.
