Proboscis Monkey
Nasalis larvatusAlso known as Long-nosed Monkey, Bekantan
Proboscis monkeys are highly specialized, tree-dwelling primates famous for the male's massive, pendulous nose, which amplifies vocalizations to attract mates and intimidate rivals. These excellent swimmers possess partially webbed feet and a large, multi-chambered stomach designed to ferment tough mangrove leaves. Living in highly organized harem groups, they leap dramatically from high branches into rivers to cross waterways.
