Canada lynx are specialized boreal predators built for deep winter snow, featuring broad paws that function like natural snowshoes and long hind legs that slope down to shorter forelimbs. Their survival and population density closely track the famous 8 to 11 year boom and bust cycles of their primary prey, the snowshoe hare. Distinctive black ear tufts, flared facial ruffs, and a short tail tipped entirely in black make these solitary hunters instantly recognizable in dense coniferous forests.
