Sand cats are masterfully adapted desert specialists that spend hot daytime hours hidden inside burrows, emerging at dusk to hunt across sand dunes. Dense fur growing on their footpads insulates them against burning surfaces while leaving virtually no footprints for trackers to follow. Low set ears act like sensitive directional radar, allowing them to pinpoint the faintest subterranean movement of small rodents and lizards beneath the sand.
