Limnonectes modestus
Limnonectes modestusAlso known as Modest Fanged Frog, Sulawesi Fanged Frog
Limnonectes modestus is a small fanged frog endemic to the humid rainforests and montane streams of Sulawesi. Adult males possess pair-like bony projections resembling fangs on their lower jaw, which they use during territorial wrestling bouts along gravel banks. Nocturnal and secretive, these frogs spend daytime hours sheltering beneath wet boulders and emerged root masses before emerging at dusk to ambush passing invertebrates.
