Northern Leopard Frog
Lithobates pipiensAlso known as Meadow Frog, Grass Frog, Herring Hopper
Northern leopard frogs are medium-sized amphibians easily recognized by the dark, circular spots ringed with light borders scattered across their green or brown backs. During the spring breeding season, males produce a distinctive, low, snoring call followed by a series of rapid chuckles. They are highly active during summer, venturing far from water into damp meadows and fields to hunt for insects.
