Bucktooth Parrotfish
Sparisoma radiansBucktooth parrotfish are small, cryptic grazers that spend their lives weaving among lush turtle grass beds and shallow reef flats across the tropical western Atlantic. Unlike larger reef parrotfish that scrape coral rock, they primarily crop living seagrass blades and graze on delicate epiphytic algae using distinct protruding teeth. Breeding males defend modest territories within the grass beds, displaying vibrant green and reddish hues during courtship before scattering buoyant eggs into the current.
