Known as the river wolf of Siberia, taimen are apex predators that ambush prey with sudden explosive strikes in swift, oxygenated river currents. Adults hunt everything from grayling and lenok to swimming rodents and ducklings, swallowing prey whole with their powerful, tooth-lined jaws. Long lived and slow growing, these massive salmonids require vast stretches of undisturbed river habitat to thrive and reproduce.
