Scarlet gamba prawns inhabit deep ocean waters along muddy continental slopes, easily recognized by their striking, uniform crimson-red color. Operating at depths between 300 and 1,000 meters, they forage along the soft seafloor for benthic invertebrates and organic debris. Their remarkable size and rich pigment make them one of the most prized catches in deepwater commercial fisheries across the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean.
