Marbled Cellar Spider
Holocnemus plucheiAlso known as Marbled Daddy Long-Legs
Marbled cellar spiders build expansive, messy webs in dark sheltered nooks, often forming dense aggregations by joining existing webs. Distinctive dark marbling on the underside of their slender abdomen sets them apart from typical cellar spiders. Unlike most spiders, both males and females possess stridulatory organs that vibrate to produce quiet acoustic signals during courtship and territorial disputes.

- Harmless to humans; safe to observe closely in its web.
Responsible observation
- Web Observation: Look for intricate, loose dome webs in quiet corners of garages, basements, or outdoor eaves.
- Vibration Response: Blowing gently on the web will cause the spider to bounce rapidly to confuse predators.
