Rabid wolf spiders stalk low vegetation and grassy fields at night, using acute vision and rapid speed to ambush prey without building web traps. Female spiders carry their round egg sacs attached to their spinnerets and later transport dozens of newly hatched spiderlings on their backs. Despite their dramatic common name, these agile hunters display no erratic rabies-like behavior and play a key role controlling agricultural pests.
