Filmy Dome Spider
Neriene radiataAlso known as Filmy Dome Weaver, Dome Spider
Filmy dome spiders weave delicate, inverted-bowl silk webs across shady low branches and woodland undergrowth. Hanging upside down beneath the peak of the dome, these small arachnids bite entangled insects through the mesh and pull them under to feed. Mated pairs frequently share a single web during late spring before females deposit egg sacs in nearby foliage.

Responsible observation
- Spotting Webs: Look for fine translucent domes suspended among shrub branches in shaded moist woods.
- Lighting Effect: Backlight the structure with a flashlight to clearly reveal the spider hanging underneath.
- Gentle Observation: Avoid touching the anchor threads, as sudden vibration causes the spider to drop into leaf litter.
