Sachem

Atalopedes campestris

Also known as Sachem Skipper, Field Skipper

Sachem skippers are energetic grass skippers recognizable by their rapid, darting flight across lawns and sunny meadows. Males sport a distinctive black square felt patch, known as a stigma, centered on their bright orange forewings. Females are noticeably darker brown with pale yellow square spots, making them look almost like a different species.

  • Approach Quietly: Move slowly to get a close look before their swift flight carries them away.
