Black witch moths are enormous, bat-like insects that shelter in dark, protected spots like open garages, caves, and porch overhangs during the day. With wingspans reaching up to seven inches, females display a pale wave-like band across their forewings, while males feature velvety dark tones with subtle iridescent eyespots. Highly migratory, individuals fly thousands of miles northward every summer, often startling observers when flushed from shaded roosts.
