Short-winged green grasshoppers thrive in damp, grassy habitats across eastern and central North America, blending seamlessly into lush vegetation. Females are larger and usually a vibrant leaf-green, whereas males are frequently brown or tan with striking dark stripes down their sides. Despite having shortened wings that restrict true flight, they jump with exceptional agility to escape predators.
