Wrinkled grasshoppers feature thick, robust bodies marked by a distinctly wrinkled pronotum and mottled brown camouflage. When startled, they launch into a powerful flight that flashes vibrant yellow, orange, or reddish hind wings accompanied by a loud crackling sound. Common in old fields and dry pastures, these band-winged grasshoppers reach adulthood in late summer and autumn.
