Two prominent pale yellow stripes run from behind the eyes all the way to the tips of the forewings on this robust grasshopper. Common across North American grasslands and farm fields, adults feed heavily on broadleaf crops, weeds, and grasses during late summer. Females lay egg pods in firm soil along ditch banks and field margins, where the eggs overwinter before hatching in late spring.
