Chocolate chip sea cucumbers crawl slowly across sandy seafloors and seagrass beds, vacuuming up organic detritus and sediment. Their distinctive coloration, featuring dark brown or black conical warts on a lighter cream or yellow body, mimics chocolate chips on cookie dough. As vital ecological recyclers, they process vast amounts of sand, cleaning the substrate and releasing essential nutrients back into the marine ecosystem.
